The purpose of this course is to equip the learner with the ability to plan, implement and maintain a SHE management system.

PREREQUISITES: Introduction to SAMTRAC & Applying SHE Principles & Procedures


COURSE OUTLINE:

  • Describe risk management as a process and discuss different risk control measures
  • Evaluate different incident prevention theories
  • Motivate the use of SHE management system to prevent incidents in the workplace
  • Advise on different legislative requirements with regard to safety, health and the environment
  • Determine when compensation is payable and calculate the amount of compensation payable to employees
  • Evaluate the management of different technical aspects as part of the SHE management system
  • Identify and explain the relevant information regarding occupational health (medicine and hygiene)
  • Initiate and execute surveys
  • Assist management with the implementation and maintenance of an effective occupational health, safety and environment programme
  • Identify relevant environmental Acts, regulations and guidelines
  • Describe the impact of industrial operations on the environment
  • Write risk-based standards for a SHE management system
  • Advise on implementation and measurement of standards
  • Advise on co-ordinating the SHE management to achieve continuous improvement
  • Describe how the effectiveness of the system can be evaluated
